Egypt’s Foreign Ministry welcomed a proposal by the Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi to hold a comprehensive forum in 2020 for reconciliation between Libyans.
This came during the meetings of the eighth session of the African Union High-level Committee on Libya, which was held in the Congolese capital of Brazzaville on January 30.
Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, Hamdi Sanad Loza, called for scrutiny in the selection of its participants, and that their loyalty must first be for the Libyan state and not narrow or private goals and concerns.
During Egypt’s speech at the committee’s meetings, Loza reviewed Egypt’s efforts in support of Libya, such as the meetings Cairo hosted for parliamentarians and Libyan leaders.
He pointed out that Egypt is in contact with the main players to ensure the comprehensiveness of dealing with the crisis and not reduce it to a specific path – while recalling the need to work in parallel within political, economic and security tracks alike.
Loza warned against any destructive and external roles that undermine stability opportunities in Libya, neighboring countries, and the Sahel region, in particular the transport of mercenaries from Syria to Libya.
